Description
Processing Support provides support associated with the functions of scheduling, report archiving and automation. Scheduling support involves setting up and maintaining processing schedules for the Z/OS and other distributed client server platforms, in addition to developing electronic forms overlays for Advanced Function Printing (AFP) on laser printers. This group also manages report archiving and bundling for distribution. Automation support involves developing programmatic routines that enable complex manual operations to be performed in an automated manner on the Z/OS platform.
Business Value
Centralized job scheduling allows us to establish predecessor/successor relationships for batch processing across all state agencies and eliminating the need for manual monitoring of processes. Successful completion of work is monitored by the scheduling system so successor work is submitted for processing immediately. Abnormal termination of batch processing holds all successor processing.
Electronic forms overlays replace pre-printed forms and are merged with data at the printer to provide a finished report. Electronic forms overlays are computer code that can be changed as needed to provide a new form presentation to correspond to data changes.
Report bundling breaks down Z/OS generated reports to a recipient level through a character string search process. Reports from multiple batch processes can be bundled as a single report and routed to the recipient. Processed reports can also be placed online for viewing. After being processed, reports are archived for recovery purposes.
Automation support monitors the Z/OS console and reacts to messages issued by executing tasks. Automation will issue system commands, issue a console message of action required, or interact with the scheduling system to schedule a batch job process.
Automation enhances monitoring of the Z/OS console by highlighting critical messages for Computer Processing Console Operators.
