Information about Viruses

When we receive information about computer viruses we will post it here. As you probably know some computer viruses are real and are potentially very damaging, others are hoaxes. We will pass along pertinent information that we receive but it is ultimately up to you to decide what action, if any, you should take.

ALERT: Virus Warning (1-21-04) 1/21/04 - "Bagel" and/or "Beagle" virus

There is a new virus entering the Untied States. It is known as the Bagel and/or Beagle virus. Please make sure your virus definition files are up to date.

ALERT: Virus Removal Tool for W32.Sobig.F@mm (8-19-03)

A new variation of the W32.Sobig.D@mm virus has emerged. Below is a removal tool for the new W32.Sobig.F@mm virus

There may be 2 separate virus.

ALERT: Virus Warning (6-19-03)

One is W32.Sobig.D@mm and more information can be found on http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sobig.d@mm.html

The other is identified as bat.mumu a.wormin ntseralce.bat and it tries to find passwords. More can be found on http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=BAT_SPYBOT.A

ALERT: Virus Warning (5-22-03)

There is a new virus going around that is very active. The anti-virus software on our Notes mail servers is catching them. There are still some messages coming in that are not viruses, but resemble them. As always, if you receive any memo that you did not expect or do not know the sender, do not open it and delete it.

The traits of this particular message are below. If you receive any message resembling this please delete it.

The return address on the message is randomized, with many copies of appearing to come from support@microsoft.com. The subject lines include:

Re: Approved (Ref: 3394-65467)
Cool screensaver
Re: My details
Re: My application
Re: Movie

The message body reads, "All information is in attached file."
